Safina, founded in 1971, initially specialized in the production of carpets, runners and rugs. Over time, it expanded its activity to the areas of extrusion of synthetic yarns and manufacturing of coir carpets. In 1996, began the manufacture and marketing of decorative artificial grass, extending the activity, in 2006, for the manufacture of sports and landscape artificial grass.
On February 10, 1971 Safina – Sociedade Industrial de Alcatifas, opened its doors in Cortegaça, Ovar. Initially specialized in the production of carpets, walkways and rugs, Safina extended its activity to the areas of extrusion of synthetic yarn and manufacturing of coir rugs. In 1996, Safina started to produce and sell decorative artificial grass, extending the activity, in 2006, for the manufacture of sports and landscape artificial grass, which currently corresponds to about 80% of the company’s production.

Safina is one of the most relevant players in the Iberian Peninsula, selling also to other markets, such as Australia, Morocco, Algeria, and Qatar. The production of carpets still constitutes 20% of Safina’s production, destined mainly for the multi-price market.
In 50 years, there were many achievements. Some of them are:
– The Certification of the company’s Quality Management System by the ISO9001:2015 Standard, as well as the implementation of a comprehensive plan to modernize the manufacturing systems and technologies (overall investment of over 5 M€ in the period 2008-2011);
– The signing of Safina in the first major tender for the supply of artificial turf for soccer in Portugal, in a total of 38 fields in the District of Braga between 2009 and 2010.
– The integration as an ESTC member (EMEA Synthetic Turf Council) and, more recently, the partnership with FIFA certified suppliers.
Today, values such as quality, commitment, and proximity sustain the longevity of a business that, even in expansion, does not lose its essence. With a team of about 100 employees and a portfolio of approximately 500 national and international clients, the differentiating factor is the proximity with which they continue to treat each other.
